DigitalGlobe released the first images from
WorldView-2, the company’s new high-resolution satellite, beginning
with images of Texas on Oct.19—only 11 days after the satellite was
launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.
WorldView-2 is the world’s first high-resolution, eight-band,
multispectral commercial satellite. The satellite collects
multispectral imagery at 1.8-meter resolution and panchromatic
imagery at 0.46 meters. The additional multispectral band capability
supports improved levels of feature identification and extraction
and more accurately reflects the world’s natural color. WorldView-2
joins DigitalGlobe’s other two sub-meter satellites, QuickBird and
WorldView-1, boosting the company’s annual imaging capacity to about
three times Earth’s land mass.
Above, an image of the San Antonio Convention Center, collected
during the GEOINT show held at the facility, was among the first
WorldView-2 images released. To see more images from the WorldView-2
