IKONOS Reveals Saddam Hussein’s Hideout

An archived 1-meter resolution satellite image of Ad-Dawr, Iraq, was taken by Space Imaging's IKONOS satellite on Feb. 27, 2003, while orbiting 423 miles above Earth. The image shows the farmhouse just northwest of the town of Ad-Dawr where former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was captured on Dec. 13, 2003, during Operation Red Dawn. The farmhouse, nestled in a tree grove across from an agricultural field, is approximately 888 feet (270 meters) from the Tigris River and about 9 miles (15 kilometers) southeast of his ancestral hometown of Tikrit.
