False-color Image Reveals Southern California Fire Damage
On Oct. 28, 2003, Space Imaging's IKONOS satellite shot this 4-meter
resolution false-color "overview" of the San Bernardino
County area (approximately 80 miles east of Los Angeles), including
Lake Arrowhead and Devore Heights close to the intersection of I-15
and I-215. Taken in the near-infrared light spectrum, the bright red
areas actually show green or living vegetation. The blackened or
charred areas in the middle of the image show areas that were burned
by the recent Southern California wildfires.
